At the first research colloquium of the summer semester on April 8, 2026, at ZeMKI, Greg Elmer spoke about “The TV Show,” a provocative documentary that explores complex personal identities, online relationships, and political conflicts within a daily YouTube “TV show.”
The film explores the YouTube show “Rachel’s Ghost” and its host, Rachel, whose format has become increasingly politicized in the wake of the pandemic. In doing so, “The TV Show” illustrates how digital public spheres are changing and how closely entertainment, identity, and political communication can be intertwined.
The research colloquium thus provided a timely insight into the dynamics of digital media cultures and underscored the relevance of such formats for media studies research.
The research colloquium at ZeMKI regularly provides a forum for academic presentations and international insights into current research projects, including discussions on media, communication, and information studies.
The event featuring Greg Elmer marked the start of the summer semester 2026 research colloquium series. The next lecture will take place on April 15, 2026, featuring Prof. Dr. Ferruh Yilmaz from Tulane University (USA), titled “The Global Rise of the Far Right: Populist Strategy, Crisis and Affect.”
Further information about the research colloquium with Ferruh Yilmaz and upcoming lectures at ZeMKI can be found here.
